PTE WRITING SECTION
PTE Writing : Writing item types require you to write a response in standard academic English. Using correct grammar and spelling. PTE Academic recognizes English spelling conventions from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
The writing skills tested in PTE Academic include the following:
Writing for a purpose (to learn, to inform, to persude) and writing a summary.
Using words and phrases appropriate to the context and using correct grammar and correct mechanics.
Developing complex ideas within a complete essay and using correct grammar.
Supporting an opinion with details, examples and explanations and using correct spelling.
Organizing sentences and paragraphs in a logical way.
Writing a correct summary, using a correct grammar, using correct mechanics and writing under timed conditions.
Overview of Writing items
Writing item types require you to write a response in standard academic English. using correct grammar and spelling.
PTE Academic recognizes English spelling conventions from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. However, one spelling convention should be used consistently in a given response.
Two item types appear in the writing sections of the PTE Academic. The total time to complete the writing sections is 40, 50 or 60 minutes, depending on the combination of items in a given test.
You could be required to write two summaries and one essay(40 minutes), three summaries and one essay(50 minutes), or two summaries and two essays(60 minutes).
You may take notes using the Erasable Note board Booklet and pen, and use these notes as a guide when answering the items.
1. Summarize Written text
Summarize Written text is a short-answer writing item type. It tests your ability to comprehend, analyze and combine information from a reading passage, and then summarize the key points in writing.
It assesses both writing and reading skills. Your score on Summarize Written text is based on the four factors:
partial credit scoring to Summarize Written Text.No credit is given for no response or an irrelevant response.
2. Write Essay
Write essay is a long-answer writing item type. It tests your ability to write a perssuasive or argumentative essay on a given topic.It assesses wrting skills.Your score on repeat sentence is based on the seven factors:
- Development, structure, and coherence
- General linguistic range
- Grammar usage and mechanics
- Vocabulary range
